The Doo's Sketch Challenge is BACK! ~ March 2014



Hello Scrappy Peeps!

Can you believe it is MARCH already!!  I'm sure everyone is ready for SPRING!!  It can't come soon enough!

I know our challenges went on a brief hiatus, but we are back and ready to start them up again - so we can help you to get your "SCRAP ON!"

We will begin with a really FUN ONE PAGE Layout to get you back into the GROVE!  You can even use up some of your scraps for it or break into that new paper pack you've been wanting to use, like Sherri Caramico did for her inspiration layout below.  Either way - you are sure to have lots of good scrappy fun with it!

It's time for July's Sketch Challenge - and it's a 2 PAGER!!

Hello Doodle Doo'ers!
Sherri here and we thought we'd "Kick July Up A Knotch" and give you a FUN 2 PAGE Challenge this month!!  We also decided to use a sketch we found on Pinterest ( yes, we too spend so many hours there!)   We sure hope you will play along with us this month !

Just look at all the FUN we had with our inspiration layouts for you this month...
Here is a layout created by Stephanie ( one of the owners of Scrap-a-Doodle Doo) and it is a HOT ONE!!
I JUST LOVE IT!!  Don't you!? - Love the polka dots, LOVE the SEQUINS!! (oh my!) and the fish too!  Look at the white "stitching" she created for 2 of the circle elements! (Shhh -I'm only telling you - so please keep it hush hush -It was really done with a white gel pen!!  HOW COOL is that!)

Here are the products she used to create this Summer Sparkler - ALL of which are available at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!  If you can't make it into the store - you can purchase them on line, just by clicking on the PRODUCTS below!

And here is my take on the sketch -  (YUP, another "JAKE" Layout - I'm still playing catch-up, and making layouts for his High School Graduation book/present!!)




I LOVE how the design of this sketch "moves" you through the photos on the layout - the large circle shape on the left page attracts your eyes first, and draws you to the Title - so you know what this layout is all about 

The other 2 circles seem to "frame" the photos in, or hold them in place, on the right page.  I think the "blockiness" of the patterned papers behind the photos helps to add color ( even though it is monochromatic in my case) and I like how the strips along the bottom kind of anchor everything to the page.

 I also had fun adding some "funky" journaling to this layout too -  be sure to click on it to enlarge the layout so you can find it!


ALL of the products / items I used were purchased at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo, but are no longer in stock (other than the Bazzill Card stock)  I used papers and embellishments from Bo Bunny's ZOOLOGY line.  I think this layout would look great with any paper line - especially with the new Bo Bunny SURPRISE! Collection. Since my layout is of Jake's 8th Birthday Party, I could have easily used the FUN new line from Bo Bunny - it is called: SURPRISE!  Have you seen it?   Check out all the great products  Just Click on this photo :

and a list will appear! -REALLY - It WILL - just TRY IT! :-)  You are going to LOVE the colors! There are 2 pages of STUFF!

Well, I hope we've inspired you to GET CRAFTY!!  Don't worry if you don't have circles or a machine to cut them - how about tracing a plate with a marker? or drawing a line and stitching, maybe a ring of buttons or bling?

Bo Bunny Surprise! Interactive Layout Class 6/28!!

Hi Everyone!  Sherri here and I would LOVE for you to join me at my next class on Friday, June 28th at 6:30pm at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!
You will be making a 1 page INTERACTIVE Layout using the Very Colorful BoBunny "SURPRISE!" paper line and co-coordinating accessories!


Here is a SNEAK PEEK! - The sample is in the store!





This page was inspired by Scrap-a-Doodle Doo's June Sketch Challenge, and I decided to  "kick it up a few notches" by adding a large "secret pocket" where you can add 3 Large Tags - for journaling or additional photos photos (up to 6 more!)  It will be PERFECT for your special Birthday Photos -either from the past, or for celebrations yet to come!  You will LOVE this technique and will use it again and again for those special photos of your precious memories -whatever the subject!  Photo sizes:  (3) 3"x4"  (up to 6) 4 x 6". 

Students need to bring the following supplies: Basic Tool Kit - including  12x12 Trimmer, Liquid Adhesive, Small Sharp Scissors, 3D Foam Dots, *FOAM TAPE - Available at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo.  Your Teacher will have one of each of the following items for students to share, but you are welcome to work at your own pace by bring your own, or purchase from Scrap-a-Doodle Doo - Ranger Distress STAIN - Peacock Feathers and Ripe Persimmon.

Bo Bunny SURPRISE! 1st Birthday Layout

Hello Doodle Doo'ers!   Sherri here with a little scrappy inspiration for you this week!

As some of you know, I started scrapping late in my son's lives, so now that my youngest son Jake is 18, I guess it is about time I scrap the few photos that I can find from his FIRST BIRTHDAY!



I bought these great New Bo Bunny SURPRISE papers on my last visit to Scrap-a-Doodle Doo.  If you are a new follower, or this is your first visit to this blog, "THE DOO" as we call it, is a Local Scrapbook Store, located  in Ramsey, NJ.  If you don't live in the area, they are on line too!



I then had to figure out how to use the 5 old and pretty dark photos that I could find from Jake's Birthday, and get them on this layout!

I really think the BRIGHT and cheery colors helped! I used the fronts and backs of the following papers from this adorable line - CAKE PAPER, YOU'RE INVITED,  and  POP PAPER, along with coordinating Bazzill Cardstock, and the adorable ELMO Die Cut, purchased and available at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo too!
 


I am very pleased with how the layout came out  - and think that the colors really brighten up the dark/nighttime backgrounds of the photos.  I decided to crop out a lot from the photos too - as there were the backs of people's heads in most of them, along with some old neighbors who have since moved and I've forgotten their names, plus too much other "stuff" that distracted from my "BIRTHDAY BOY." I cropped them to just show Jake and I, and his cute Elmo cake. This way I was able to fit them all on one page, and highlight his sweet little face!  The "I'm a Star" ribbon, Big Green #1, Elmo Die Cut, Birthday Cake and candles, and the Present were all added to the layout with Helmar 3D Foam Dots.


All edges were inked with Ranger Distress Stain in Festive Berries.

I hope this layout gives you ideas and inspiration of how to use multiple patterned papers together with paper elements/embellishments cut from them, that can be pop-dotted to your layout to added dimension and added interest!

Shh.... What Hubby doesn't know....

....won't hurt him!  LOL!!  Shhhh... my scrappy friends!!

These are the type of posts that make me glad my Hubby
(as wonderful as he is ) ~ doesn't read BLOGS!!

After all, he is not a scrapper or a blogger - AND really he is very supportive of my "Habit!" - BUT -as the saying goes - "What he doesn't know, won't hurt him !" ~ Right ladies!!!!!

Why am I THANKFUL that he is not a Blog "Follower" you might ask?

Well.... because I happened to visit my FAVORITE Local Scrapbook Store this weekend - that is Scrap-a-Doodle Doo, in Ramsey, NJ my friends!!!

Oh, and if you aren't lucky enough to live nearby - then you can also find all these goodies at their

AND - because I just happened to arrive as they were unloading OODLES of GOODIES of all the NEW CHA Releases I got some GREAT STUFF!!

OH MY!! Just take a look at my latest Scrap Haul and you will know why I am glad Hubby is not "into" Blogs!!

I will include one of these AWESOME embellies!!  So,  I couldn't decide on the color I wanted -so YUP - I picked up 6 different packs  ( Shhh!! Don't tell!)

And yes, I just had to have the Maya Road Kraft Envelopes - I've got some great plans and journaling notes to put in those babies!!

So, please, DON'T TELL MY HUBBY and STOP by THE DOO, either in person or on line and take advantage of the GREAT SALES they have on their in stock items, or on the BRAND NEW items arriving that were introduced at CHA - and GET SCRAPPY!!

CKC SNEAK PEEKS!!! Shhhh......

Hi there SCRAPPY PEOPLE!!

 
It is SNEAK PEEK TIME  ~ but this time it is a little different !!

 
I am going to share 2 Projects with you that I've designed
for Scrap-a-Doodle Doo
that were made EXCLUSIVELY for the upcoming CKC ( Creating Keepsakes Convention) in  LANCASTER, PA!!!

Are you going?  The dates are JULY 27th - JULY 29th
- JUST 2 WEEKS AWAY!!!

 
THE DOO asked me to come up with some FUN, DIFFERENT
and "OUT OF THE BOX" Project Kits to offer at CKC,
and that is exactly what I tried to "DOO!" 
I'll share 2 of them with you here!

 
If you are going to CKC - be sure to head over to SCRAP-A-DOODLE DOO's BOOTH and pick one up before they are ALL GONE!!  ALL of the CKC Kits are SPECIAL EDITIONS  and there are LIMITED QUANTITIES, so if you want one be sure to get there early and grab one!!  Wait until you see all the goodies they have in store for you this year!

 
First up is a "Recipe Stand" from KAISERCRAFT.   While you can put a recipe on here to follow while you are cooking, you can also use this to DISPLAY you latest and greatest 12 x12 Layout, or even use it to hold open an Idea Book or Scrapbook Magazine for inspiration while working on a new project!

I used paper from Imaginisce's "HELLO CUPCAKE" paper collection.  I LOVE all the colors!!
This kit will also include full color photos of the "fronts" and "backs" of each "page" along with cutting / scoring instructions, paper piecing template (for the hat) buttons and this COOL YELLOW May Art's WEB WEAVE RIBBON -

Just "DOO" IT! ~ Why not Scrap YOURSELF!

Hello my Scrappy Friends!

Sherri Caramico here with my 2nd post of the week as a DT Member of Scrap-a-Doodle Doo! If you don't already, PLEASE FOLLOW The DOO Blog, so that you can continue to receive TIPS and INSPIRATION from the rest of The DOO Team, and find out info on upcoming classes at the store, as well as WONDERFUL Weekend Crop Events, Sales and Scrappy Happenings!

This is a layout I made using BoBunny's Zoology Collection.  It is a photo of ME! Yes, I actually scrapped a photo of JUST ME (and a few Elephants too!)

So,  RIGHT NOW, I want to give you PERMISSION to do the same - It really is quite fun!! 
After all, you are the creator of scrapbooks in your family, right? SO why SHOULDN'T YOU do a few pages that make YOU Happy, and your family / friends will enjoy and cherish in years to come? 
GO ON - JUST "DOO" IT!  
I promise, if you never have - you will LOVE the results
- SO just go ahead and CREATE for YOU for a change!

  I was able to add lots of things that I just LOVE on this layout. It is based on one of MY favorite animals at the Zoo (San Diego Zoo in this case) from our first trip there last summer.  We had a great time watching these BIG and BEAUTIFUL animals interact with each other, and with some of the trainers.  It was a day and a trip I will always remember, so I wanted to do a layout to remember it by.

The materials that were used was BoBunny's TIGER 12x12 paper as well as some of the CUT OUTS and coordinating chipboard elements - all with the Elephant Theme!

The BB Tiger paper edges were inked with Ranger Distress Stain BLACK SOOT.

I wanted to pick up the teal of my shirt and necklace, so I found a teal diecut in my stash, and inked those edges with Ranger Distress Stain Picket Fences.


I used lots of flowers, brads and gems from my stash. TIP:  PLAN BEFORE YOU GLUE!  I always layout the photos, and the elements before I glue anything down and then take a picture of it with my phone, so I can look back and see the placement of all the elements, once I have it set the way that I want it.



Can you find the little metal elephant charm?  He, along with some of the buttons are also BoBunny's added elements from this collection - soo cool!  There are all kinds of Flowers on this Layout too - most of them are from Prima if I remember correctly.  I love this little grouping of "Stuff!" don't you?



The 3D Elephant is also from BoBunny's coordinating elements. I just LOVE all the "STUFF" they make to coordinate with their lines.  They add such dimension and FUN to my Layouts!  AND ~ I also LOVE that Scrap-a-Doodle Doo, my MOST FAVORITE Local Scrapbook and ON-LINE store carries LOTS of WONDERFUL Products, and is my GO TO place to get all this Scrappy Goodness!
GOTTA LOVE THE DOO!



The Teal Pearl Swirls are from ZVA - this was one swirl that I cut up into pieces, and added by each grouping of elements.  The playing card was from a small deck of cards that I purchased
at The San Diego Zoo - with scrapping in mind of course! LOL! I added it with HELMAR's Zap Dots to give it some added POP, along side the 3D Elephant - LOVE those things!

How'd She "DOO" That? Classes at THE DOO!

Hi Everyone - I wanted to introduce you to a series of classes that I have been, and will be teaching at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!

They are titled "How'd She "DOO" That?" They are technique based classes, in which students create a 1 page layout using fun products and new methods. Complete directions and photos are provided, so that you can re-create and use these techniques again and again in your future layouts and projects.

The 2nd Class in the series is titled:
"Lot's O' Layers Class"
I taught this class at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo on April 12th, and it was so much fun, and well received, 
that will be teaching it again this Saturday, April 21st
at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo's Luau Themed Weekend Crop!

I used papers from the "WILD" BoBunny ZOOLOGY Collection -
(1) 12x12 BoBunny ZOOLOGY, 
(1) 12x12 BoBunny ZOO DOT, 
(1) 12x12 BoBunny Zoology WORD, 
Can you believe there were only 3 pieces of paper
used to make all these layers?!

The ZOO DOT "frame" was made with a Water Distressing Technique, as well as the center photo frame (orange with small dots) which is the back of the Zoology paper.

 I thought the lovely tiger and beautiful green leaves from the ZOOLOGY page needed to be brightened up a little bit - so we tapped the Ranger Distress Stains out on a splat mat, or non-porous surface to create a little puddle that we could dip a paint brush in - and painted the Tiger with Spiced Marmalade, and the leaves with Peeled Paint. After it dried, the Tiger was highlighted with Ranger Distress Markers -using Black Soot, and Picket Fence, then we used Royal Coat Dimensional Magic to make his eyes and nose come to life.


Look how much it just makes all that lovely detail "POP!"



The 2 feathers / or leaves were lots of fun to make too - they were made with the reverse side of the ZOO DOT paper.  They were then accented with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze in Indian Summer and Sea Kelp.
