"Olde Curiosity Shoppe" Birdhouse

Anna here again this week from StampAnna Designs.  


Today I am going to share a sneak peek of an upcoming class.  


I introduce you to the : 

"Olde Curiosity Shoppe"  
Steam-Punk Birdhouse Class

DESCRIPTION: 
In this class we are going to alter a wood birdhouse.  Add some feet, and totally "Steam-punk" it out.  The paper line we are using is the fabulous Graphic 45 "Olde Curiosity Shoppe" paper.  We will be painting, alcohol inking, misting, glossy'ing, fussy cutting, and just layering up a bunch of fun stuff.  Lots of components in this class.  Paper flowers, ribbon, metal embellishments, and more.  We will also be putting on a "TIN" Roof.  :)  Who would have though "roofing" work could be so much fun? {WINK}

Details are not on the Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo website as of yet.  But will be shortly.

Supplies to bring to class:  Fabri-tac, adhesive, scissors, edge distresser, paper trimmer, pop dots, glue dots, Ranger Non-Stick Mat.  (and gloves if you don't want to get your hands inky)

If you the "Frayed Burlap" Distress Ink and inking tool with foam-please bring it for your personal use.  (any brown distress ink will do)  

(I will have mine, but you may bring your own for speed-i-ness of the class.  It will be helpful, but not required.)

Coloring With Distress Markers

Hello there "Doo"ers! Adina here, hoping you are DOOing well this beautiful Saturday morning! :) In keeping with my last post, I want to show you a quick photo tutorial explaining one way in which the versatile Ranger Distress Markers can be used to color stamps...

Supplies used include Hero Arts' Make Your Own stamp, Distress Ink pad in Black Soot, and Distress Markers in Antique Linen, Stormy Sky, Mustard Seed, and Vintage Photo.


First, ink the stamp with Black Soot to completely cover the image.

Then stamp the image onto scrap paper. (You can use this image and color it in using a different technique at a later date... for this technique we will be using a second generation version of the stamped image).

You can then begin coloring in the image with the Distress markers as desired. I started with Vintage Photo for the shoes and first girl's hair.


Then I added some Stormy Sky for one of the dresses...
And Mustard Seed for the second dress...
Then I used Antique Linen for the second girl's hair. Although I don't have a picture coloring in the hair, I DO have a picture of some of the color mixing that happened when coloring with the light marker over the darker ink...

Because the Distress markers are water based, any color blending that occurs will not contaminate the markers. Simply clean the marker off on scrap paper until you get a pure color distribution

Before you stamp your image onto your final paper, I would suggest breathing (or huffing) on the stamp a little to reactivate the moisture of the older ink. This will ensure that you have enough ink for the whole image to clearly transfer onto your cardstock.

The final result is a multicolored, distressed, and vintage-looking image.



I chose to leave the image as it is to get the feel of vintage Simplicity pattern forms, but the image can be further colored in using other distress markers, watercolor pens, or copic markers to add skin tone and other effects as desired.

Remember that these markers are water based so if you do incorporate a watercolor pen, apply watercolors lightly to avoid smudging.

No Stress Distress!

Hello fellow "doo"ers!! Adina here, checking in with an update on my recent scrap haul! With all the great products being released post CHA, this is the time to clear out some space in your craft room to make room for new and exciting tools! :)

Some of my favorite newly released goodies come direct from the master guru of scrapping himself, Tim Holtz... At the top of my list are the HAWT distress markers that have just hit the shelves of Scrap A Doodle Doo...

These markers are a must have if you are a fan of the Tim Holtz Distress line by Ranger. Having played with them a little bit at the Doo this weekend, I can attest that they are versatile and since they come in all thirty seven Distress colors, they will blend perfectly with your current Distress stash.

Best used for direct stamping, coloring. or even for journaling and writing with the fine tip, these markers blend well with other colors and are reactive to water for a more watercolored, artistic look. But do be careful if you journal with them (trust me!), because if you wet your journaling after you've written, the ink will smudge (sadly I learned this first hand...). 

When I chose my colors, I was first going to stick to colors I knew I already had in my distress stash... but then I realized just how many colors were available and I had to branch out a bit. Because these markers will work so well with the distress inks, reinkers, and stains, it makes sense to choose colors that may add to your coloring options and compliment any distressed colors you currently have on hand. BUT I would definitely suggest picking up the Picket Fence white marker, because this one is phenomenal on kraft paper or colored cardstock and provides a crisp, clean effect.  

Whether you choose to augment your stash or compliment your existing color palette, I think you will be pleased by the range of uses available with these affordably priced markers. Can't wait to see what you all come up with! Happy scrapping!

Anyone else gettin crafty?

Hey "Doo" crew!! Adina here, just checkin' in to share a project I have been futzing around with for a few days... I took Melanie and my niece Sarah shopping at XSRE during the summer and the girls glammed it up for the camera.... Needless to say, I HAD to scrap the experience using the GORGEOUS Webster's Pages Candy Party paper and Dusty Attic's Mini Wire Dress forms...

I TRIED lacing the upper left hand corner with some ribbon and even inserted some of the Dusty Attic Lasing Tash (ala Natasha!) embellished with Viva Decor Pearl Pen in cream and a lil Golden Goddess Glimmer Glam and Teal High Heels Glimmer Mist sprayed on the page to tie it all together...  
And viola, there you have it! Thanks for looking, and hope to see you at the Doo sometime soon!

Lots 'O Layers ~ Water distressing Class

Sherri Caramico here - I am one of the Design Team Members and Educators at my FAVORITE Local Scrapbook Store (LSS) Scrap-a-Doodle Doo in Ramsey, NJ.

For my first post - I'd LOVE to share a FUN project with you.
 
I taught this "Lots 'O Layers" Class at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo's CANDYLAND Weekend Crop event, on January 27, 28 & 29.  This event was well attended by 90+ Scrappy Croppers, and all of them had (as always)  a FABULOUS TIME!

The class sold out with 12 Lovely and Talented Ladies attending! They were all so pleased with their finished layout, and I am happy they enjoyed the class, and learning a new technique!

Since not everyone got into the class - I will be teaching a similar one at the store in the very near future! Watch this Blog and Scrap-a-Doodle Doo's Facebook Page for a Date and Time!

Until then - I'll share the photos of the layout that we created at the Candyland Weekend.

I used a piece of "YAM" Bazzill cardstock for the base - I really love how it picked up and made the light orange color in the frame stand out.

The other papers are from the beautiful Webster's Pages Lady's and Gent's line - "Groomed Traveler" and "Pretty Up" I just LOVE the Blue and Green combo in these papers!

The blue frame originally had an outside measurement of 12"x12" but just look at what a little water, and folding ( or smushing) can do!  It transforms it into a smaller frame that allows the beautiful green paper to edge the layout so nicely!







The green "frame" in the center was made by using a bone folder, a pencil and water to curl the edges. This is a fun way to add dimension to your layouts and make your photos POP!
(hmmm.... I think that would be a good idea for a future Tutorial ~ don't you?!)

The edges of everything, including the folds and creases were "distressed" with RANGER Distress Stain in what must be one of my favorite colors "PEELED PAINT" as I realize that I have 3 bottles of this color in my stash!! LOL!!
Here is a close up of some of the detail.

The plain paper Prima Flower was "inked" with Ranger Distress Stain in Shabby Shutters.

In this close up, you can see the dimension you can achieve with this water distressing technique.  I hope this inspired you to get out your Mini Mister, spray some paper with water and smush away!
