We are going to take it easy on you this month and CHALLENGE you with a ONE PAGE Layout this time. You can even use up some of your scraps for it - but I opted to break in my NEW GOODIES from Simple Stories "SAY CHEESE" line and kicked the sketch up a notch for ya!

Once again we've decided to use PINTEREST for our sketch source - ( because yours truly LOVES scouring Pinterest for sketches, scrappy ideas and recipes!) and there are just so many good ones out there!! Hello Scrappy Peeps!  We've done it again!!  Since we had a record number of  players for our July "Double Dare" 2 page layout, we decided to CHALLENGE you all with another 2 PAGER for September!

This 2 page sketch caught our eye on a post on Pinterest - (serious inspiration on that website -right?!!)  and we HOPE you will PLAY ALONG with us this month!

So without further "A-DOO" - here is the sketch for this month's challenge:  (CLICK on the photos below to enlarge)

Now, for your INSPIRATION.....
Here is our DT Member Adina's Inspiration "BOOGIE MAMBO":

Besides the adorable photos of her little girl, I'm LOVIN' her use of the Tattered Angel's Chalkboard Glimmer Mists in the "white" spaces of the layout!!  That sparkly Blue ribbon from May Arts across the top really "BLINGS" out the layout -and makes those dance costumes sparkle too!

Here are the items from Scrap-a-Doodle Doo that Adina used in her AWESOME Layout! CLICK ON them and check them out!

Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist - Canary
Bazzill Canvas Cardstock - Arctic
Bazzill Cardstock Lemon Drop Yellow
Queen &Co Self Adhesive Rhinestones - Brilliant Blue

 Next up is my layout.
Now, for those of you that know me - you know that I'm all about layers, and mixing patterned paper.   This sketch was a challenge to me at first, with all that white space!!  After a trip to THE DOO - I found this AWESOME NEW Paper Line "SNAPSHOTS" from Bella Blvd and I just "had to have it!!"  I decided it was perfect and used it to really put my own twist on the sketch by filling that white space in!  What do you think?......

These photos are from our trip to North Topsail Beach, NC, a few weeks ago. We had a great time relaxing, and I had a blast "Snapping Pics!"  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the layered banners!!!  I'm going to have to use this idea on layouts in the future!!  I had FUN using the HOT NEW "ZIG" Wink of Stella Brush! I used the Distress Stains to color in the Tim Holtz Grungeboard letters I used for the title -then used the CLEAR Zig Stella Brush over the top of them, and then gave them a coat of clear DIMENSIONAL MAGIC.

My Mind's Eye "Cut & Paste" embellishment pack
Ranger Distress Stain - Peacock Feathers
Ranger Distress Stain - Ripe Persimmon
Ranger Distress Stain - Black Soot
Bazzill Cardstock
ZIG Wink Stella Brush -Clear

Hello Bloggy Buddies!

Can you believe it is August already!!  -
WOW - Time sure does FLY BY!

This month's sketch is an easy FUN ONE -   and you can use up some of your scraps for it - (like I did) if you'd like!

We've decided to use PINTEREST for our sketch source again - as there are just so many good ones out there and we are thankful/greatful for all those who share!  We found this one that dates back to 2010 on an Ally Scraps Blog - so Thanks Ally and Thanks to Debbie Gaydos the designer!

Did you ever only have 1 photo from a memory, or event, and were not sure what to do with it?  Well, I had this one great shot of my youngest son Jake, holding the first "pickings" from his first ever garden. I decided it would be perfect for this Sketch/Layout - and I used the same photo - 3 times, but with 2 different size prints!

I also found this great GARDEN paper from Scrap-a-Doodle Doo, and thought it would work perfectly! I even mixed in a little patterned paper that I had left over from a beach layout - that I used BoBunny's Key Lime Colletion in, and some leftover paper from a layout I used My Mind's Eye Collectable / Notable collection in too!

ITEMS USED:  (Click on the underlined words/links to find them at THE DOO!)

Adornit -Garden Fun-Garden Word Play
BoBunny Key Lime Stripe (stripe)
Fiskers edge punch
Thicker's Marine Glitter Letters
Heidi Swapp Memory File Mini Instaframes <--- LOVE THESE!!

Here is July's Sketch - ( It's a cool one right?! I can hear those wheels turning in your head already!)

Oh all the WONDERFUL things I know you guys are going to be able to do with this sketch!
I can't wait to see them!

Just look at all the FUN we had with our inspiration layouts for you this month...
Here is a layout created by Stephanie ( one of the owners of Scrap-a-Doodle Doo) and it is a HOT ONE!!
I JUST LOVE IT!!  Don't you!? - Love the polka dots, LOVE the SEQUINS!! (oh my!) and the fish too!  Look at the white "stitching" she created for 2 of the circle elements! (Shhh -I'm only telling you - so please keep it hush hush -It was really done with a white gel pen!!  HOW COOL is that!)

Here are the products she used to create this Summer Sparkler - ALL of which are available at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!  If you can't make it into the store - you can purchase them on line, just by clicking on the PRODUCTS below!
From the SIMPLE STORIES - I HEART SUMMER COLLECTION -

Other products found at THE DOO

And here is my take on the sketch -  (YUP, another "JAKE" Layout - I'm still playing catch-up, and making layouts for his High School Graduation book/present!!)

I LOVE how the design of this sketch "moves" you through the photos on the layout - the large circle shape on the left page attracts your eyes first, and draws you to the Title - so you know what this layout is all about

The other 2 circles seem to "frame" the photos in, or hold them in place, on the right page.  I think the "blockiness" of the patterned papers behind the photos helps to add color ( even though it is monochromatic in my case) and I like how the strips along the bottom kind of anchor everything to the page.

I also had fun adding some "funky" journaling to this layout too -  be sure to click on it to enlarge the layout so you can find it!

ALL of the products / items I used were purchased at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo, but are no longer in stock (other than the Bazzill Card stock)  I used papers and embellishments from Bo Bunny's ZOOLOGY line.  I think this layout would look great with any paper line - especially with the new Bo Bunny SURPRISE! Collection. Since my layout is of Jake's 8th Birthday Party, I could have easily used the FUN new line from Bo Bunny - it is called: SURPRISE!  Have you seen it?   Check out all the great products  Just Click on this photo :

and a list will appear! -REALLY - It WILL - just TRY IT! :-)  You are going to LOVE the colors! There are 2 pages of STUFF!

Well, I hope we've inspired you to GET CRAFTY!!  Don't worry if you don't have circles or a machine to cut them - how about tracing a plate with a marker? or drawing a line and stitching, maybe a ring of buttons or bling?

So come on - and get Scrappy With It! We CANNOT wait to see what all of you will come up with!!  Be sure to LINK up your photo here with the Linky Button!

GOOD LUCK and HAPPY SCRAPPIN'!

Everybody Loves Disney! - RIGHT?  - I will admit that I do LOVE Disney A LOT!  (especially Disney Cruise Line,) It always makes me smile, and I want to share a Disney smile with you!

Come on, I know there are a few other Disney fans out there besides me!

I made this page at one of the past Scrap-a-Doodle Doo Weekend Crop events.

It is a layout that records a great memory of our Family Vacation to Walt Disney World to celebrate my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary!

Here we all are in Hollywood Studios -wearing our matching Celebration T-shirts!

I colored the stars in on the Reminisce Magic -Magical Hat paper with a yellow Sharpie to match Mickey's Giant Hat in the background of the photo. ( I used 2 of the same pieces of paper and pop dotted the hat to give it dimension.) I cut the swirl out of the back of the 2nd sheet, by hand, to mimic the swirl on the WDW pin at the bottom of the layout - and I had a blast with the red and white baker's twine - one of my new favorite embellishments!   I covered a piece of white cardstock with Queen and Co Trendy Chevron Washi Tape to create a "Party of 10' banner.  All of the scrappy items on this layout were purchased at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!

Thanks for looking!  I hope this layout inspires you to CREATE SOMETHING!

ENJOY!

Hello Doodle Doo'ers!   Sherri here with a little scrappy inspiration for you this week!

As some of you know, I started scrapping late in my son's lives, so now that my youngest son Jake is 18, I guess it is about time I scrap the few photos that I can find from his FIRST BIRTHDAY!

I bought these great New Bo Bunny SURPRISE papers on my last visit to Scrap-a-Doodle Doo.  If you are a new follower, or this is your first visit to this blog, "THE DOO" as we call it, is a Local Scrapbook Store, located  in Ramsey, NJ.  If you don't live in the area, they are on line too!

I then had to figure out how to use the 5 old and pretty dark photos that I could find from Jake's Birthday, and get them on this layout!

I really think the BRIGHT and cheery colors helped! I used the fronts and backs of the following papers from this adorable line - CAKE PAPER, YOU'RE INVITED,  and  POP PAPER, along with coordinating Bazzill Cardstock, and the adorable ELMO Die Cut, purchased and available at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo too!

I am very pleased with how the layout came out  - and think that the colors really brighten up the dark/nighttime backgrounds of the photos.  I decided to crop out a lot from the photos too - as there were the backs of people's heads in most of them, along with some old neighbors who have since moved and I've forgotten their names, plus too much other "stuff" that distracted from my "BIRTHDAY BOY." I cropped them to just show Jake and I, and his cute Elmo cake. This way I was able to fit them all on one page, and highlight his sweet little face!  The "I'm a Star" ribbon, Big Green #1, Elmo Die Cut, Birthday Cake and candles, and the Present were all added to the layout with Helmar 3D Foam Dots.

All edges were inked with Ranger Distress Stain in Festive Berries.

I hope this layout gives you ideas and inspiration of how to use multiple patterned papers together with paper elements/embellishments cut from them, that can be pop-dotted to your layout to added dimension and added interest!

Thanks for stopping by!

GOOD LUCK to everyone and I hope you enjoy these 2 great GIVE-A-WAYS by Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!

I selected a photo of my husband and me from our first trip to Disneyland, before our 30th Anniversary Disney Cruise to Hawaii, last October. I thought the orange of his shirt worked well with the colors of the papers, but really any photo will work.  I decided to manipulate the photo in Photoshop and printed it with a "soft focus" and I like the way it came out.  I think a photo printed in Sepia would be nice too!

Here are the materials / products used:  ( ALL Purchased at Scrap-a-Doodle Doo!)

(3) 12x12 Prima Romantique patterned papers: (1) each Ha'Penny(base) / Crumpet / Gazette
30" orange and white bakers twine
(1) 12x6" pc Garden Green Bazzill
(1) 12x6" Melon Bazzill
(1) Gold Glitter Dot
(2) Vintage brass buttons
(1) Med size Doily
(1) Lg Manilla Tag
(3) small Green cardstock leaves, (3) small Melon cardstock leaves cut using Tim Holtz's Die
(2) punched butterfly
(4) die cut flower shapes -using Tim Holtz Tattered Flower Die
Tools NEEDED : 12 x 12 Paper Trimmer, Small Sharp Scissors, Liquid Adhesive, Score Tape or Red Line Tape, Favorite Tape Runner, 3D Foam or Glue/Zap Dots, Pencil with eraser
SUGGESTED ADD ONS – Can be purchased from Scrap-a-Doodle Doo: Butternut Squash Glimmer Mist, RANGER Distress STAINS - in the following colors: Tarnished Brass, Peeled Paint, Rusty Hinge, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo.
INSTRUCTIONS:  BASE is Ha'Penny - INK EDGES with Peeled Paint.  INK edges of Doily with Peeled Paint Distress Stain -then SPRAY lightly with Butternut Squash Glimmer Mist and let dry.  You can give the feather a quick spray too, and make it sparkle! Let dry. CUT MATS as follows:
Melon - 4 1/2 x 6 1/2"
Green - 4 3/4 x 6 3/4"
NEXT Cut out the following elements from the GAZETTE Page - large pc with numbers - THIS WILL BE THE USED TO MAKE THE FLOWER. *(If you purchased a kit – the flower has been pre-cut for you!) Cut out the Music square, the strip of Admit One tickets, the long ruler etc. that you see – or that you would like to use. Take the Small Alpha Letters rectangle piece and WET the upper right corner and "smush/fold" down as shown.  Take the Cacao en Chocolaad, the Gipsey Countess, and the 1876 elements and make banner ends on the right sides. CUT out the long graph paper like strip that has the blue boarder* and WET this pc @  1 1/2" in from the left and fold/"smush" as shown. INK the edges of EVERYTHING with either Peeled Paint -or Rusty Hinge or a combo of both. You can even INK some of the edges with the Tarnished Brass (GOLD) Stain too! INK some of the brighter squares with TEA DYE Distress Stain –right over the top of them to make them look a little more VINTAGE.  Punch 2 butterfly shapes out of the extra paper.   ( These will be included - punched out in the kit)  SET ALL ASIDE.

NEXT take the CRUMPET Paper -and cut off the 2 floral strips -make an @ 1 1/2" deep "V" cut on the right end to make a "banner" or 2 pointed shape - INK EDGES with Peeled Paint.  CUT the remaining piece to 8 1/2"x10" and ink the edges of the blue square side.

ASSEMBLY:  Remember –your Base is Ha'Penny. Now WET the top right corner of the 8 3/4" x 10" pc of blue square from CRUMPET and fold down and crumble as shown. **ADD this pc @ 1/2" from the left side of the base and @ 1" from the bottom ** BUT -DO NOT ADD ADHESIVE on the TOP RIGHT SIDE so that you can slide in the journaling tag later.  ADD the sprayed/dried Doily to the left edge of the base with the top on the edge on the top of the blue square piece.  ADD the GREEN WEB Ribbon @ 1/2" from the bottom of the page - using SCORE TAPE.  Add the 1" x 12" graph-like strip from GAZETTE that has been water distressed(left edge folded as shown) on the center of the Web Ribbon - and up against the RIGHT edge of the base  ** I used liquid adhesive to do this..  Add the 2 flower strip piece that you made the large "banner" with @ 3 3/4" from the bottom of the page.  Use Foam Dots to add the Cacao en Chocolaad "banner" in between the ribbon and the 2 flower strip.

Now let’s Distress the 6 small leaves and MAKE the TIM HOLTZ DISTRESSED FLOWER – First RUN the piece you saved from the Gazette page through the Cuttlebug using the DIE to create the 4 pieces of the flower. INK the front of the petals with TEA DYE STAIN – and the edges with PEELED PAINT – you can even hit some or parts of the edges with TARNISHED BRASS.   Start with the smallest flower  - Bend or roll the ends of each petal back or under.  Take the next larger flower and just bend ONE SIDE of each petal under (the same side on each one.) Take the point petal flower and use a Q-tip to roll each petal back/under. Use your fingers to curl the edges of petals of the Large flower under.  Take each flower and place them one at a time, on a folded up “wad” of paper towels, or any soft foam you may have.  Press the soft eraser end of a pencil into the center of each flower, and squeeze around it the eraser to form a dent or a cup, bending and adding dimension as you go.  Glue layers together as shown – I used SCORE TAPE.  Add Gold Glitter Dot to center with liquid glue.  TO MAKE THE LEAVES (shapes vary) INK fronts of  Melon with Rusty Hinge and GREEN with Peeled Paint, INK edges with Vintage Photo – and add a little Tarnished Brass to the edges too. BEND –or roll edges of the leaves back to create a 3D effect.
FINAL ASSEMBLY:  Place –DO NOT GLUE - the DOUBLE MAT on the Layout as shown and begin to slip the other paper elements, that have been inked with or edged with Stain, UNDER and around the mat. Place the flower, feather and leaves as shown. Once you get everything where you like them –( I usually take a picture with my phone at this point! -  then you can then GLUE everything down. I used my finger to curl the “Gipsey Countess” as shown, and only glued the parts of the elements that would be slipped under the Mat –leaving the edges slightly lifted from the page. I used SCORE TAPE to glue down the base end of my Feather under the flower –and used it to add the flower as well.I added the leaves to the layout with Liquid glue on the edges that touched the base, in 3 groups of 2 –one of each color, around the flower. Next FUSSY CUT the deep colored roses from the GAZZETE Page and add to the top left corner of the Mat with Foam Dots.   ADD the 2 Vintage buttons with thick 3D glue dots as shown.

Take the manila TAG – ink the edges with Peeled Paint Stain – ink the entire front of the tag with TEA DYE. When dry – add journaling to the front that will be exposed – and any additional or secret journaling to the back of the tag.  Replace the white string on the tag with an @ 4” piece of the Baker’s Twine  – then tuck in as shown.

Cut the remaining piece of Baker’s Twine in half.  Starting at the bottom right of the flower - add a drop of glue and tuck it under the flower or one of the leaves.  Take it down in a few places with a tiny drop of glue – adding a loop somewhere along the way, and tucking the end under the strip with the ruler.  Take the last piece of Baker’s Twine and starting at the top left of the flower – add to the layout – with a loop, the same way – see photo for guide.

BUTTERFLY – Punch these from scraps / leftover paper. You need 2 – I inked the edges of the one with the Peeled Paint and the Brass, and the front of it with TEA DYE.  I cut a strip of a 3D Glue Dot to glue them together on the body and folded the wings up a little on the top one – then added them both to the layout as shown.

I hope you like the layout and are inspired to try to re-create it!
